Greece in World Soccer Cup finals

Greece qualified for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with a 1-0
victory against hosts Ukraine on Wednesday evening.

The second playoff game was played in Donetsk on Wednesday and the only
goal was scored by Dimitris Salpingidis 31'. The first game played in
Greece last Saturday had ended in a goalless draw.

The Greek national team qualifies for the second time in its history
since 1994.

Congratulations to the team. Well done and deserved on the basis of
rankings. I hope that we do better in SA than we did in 1994 (can't
do worse, that's for sure).

Alexander the MACEDONIAN was not of your afro-asiatic "Greek" variety,
nitwit. He was a CONQUEROR and HEGEMON of the "Greeks", as some of your own
scholars correctly point out.

When did Alexander conquered the Greeks???? I am missing this
totally. The only action he was involved in was the siege of Thebes.
In fact, the only battle in southern Greece during his reign was
actually the battle of Megalopolis in which Antipater commanded a
force composed 80% of Megalopolitans, Corinthians and Argives that
defeated the Spartans!! Greek allied troops played a major
significance in all crucial battles in the campaign against the
Persians until the capture of Persepolis. Alexander then send them
home on the basis of the agreement he had signed in Corinth. Hardly
the actions of a conqueror. After his death, Perdikkas and Harpalos
advanced a huge sum of money to the Athenians to attack Antipater.
Macedonia was later ravaged by the Gauls (who also killed its king)
and fell to a southern Greek army led by Demetrius and in succession,
to the Epirotan army by Pyrrhus (both of which assumed the crown of
Macedonia). When Antigonus I Gonatas took over, Ptolemy II concluded
an alliance with many southern and western Greek states and attacked
Macedonia. Just a brief history for you. Do not forget that Lysander
(the Spartan) was also the Hegemon of Greece and erected the most
splendid monument in Delphi to celebrate his rule (the monument of the
admirals). The role later fell to Epaminondas of Thebes. So, being
the hegemon of the league was hardly breaking any new ground. And
let's not forget that Philip II was given the leadership of the Holy
League by the Amphictyony, even as his first engagement in Thessaly
ended in a very devastating defeat.

I just do not get this equation. It may make sense to you, I guess.
